Recoil is the musical venture of ex- Depeche Modemember Alan Wilder, for which he writes the music and invites various guest musicians to write the accompanying lyrics and perform them on the record. Other musicians are recruited for atmospheric effect, including Hepzibah Sessa of Miranda Sex Gardenfame and Dean Garcia from Curve. The vocal parts are either sung or performed as spoken word pieces. Many confuse Recoilas strictly spoken-word material, but its inherent form is more theatrical. Alan Wilder has also worked with Nitzer Ebb, producing their 1991 album Ebbhead.
